Moving home before Christmas
Christmas is well and truly on its way and if you’ve got the daunting task of a pre Christmas move ahead of you!
Sticking your head in the sand and praying for January is probably looking like your most favourable option right now. But worry not – it’s an exciting time for you! After all, what could be more exciting than Christmas in your brand new home, with everything unpacked and in place, ready for the hoards of family members on their way? Nothing… that’s what.
However, don’t think we’ve overlooked the bit in between now and your glorious end result… We know the hard work that’s in store and we understand you may have lost a couple (lots) of nights sleep worrying about this, but people, now is not the time to panic… trust us – we’re removal experts.
So here you have it, 12 helpful and handy tips to help you execute the perfect pre Christmas move… We like to call it The 12 helpful and handy tips to help you execute the perfect pre Christmas move. Catchy… don’t you think?
Tip 1: Call the professionals. Give us a call and have a chat with one of the Twilleys team. We’re trained to look after panicked movers so feel free to ask all the questions you need answering. Whilst you’re at it, book a Pre-Move Survey and we’ll come to you to give you a quote and lots of advice.
Tip 2: Make lists. Make a list of everything you need to do before your move. Lists can calm you down and allow you to see the task ahead, instead of the brain jumble you’ve been dealing with over the past months.
Tip 3: The big clear out. Now you have a move date in sight, it’s time to ditch the junk. Spend a ruthless weekend on the hunt for things you don’t need and take them straight to the charity shop – you never know, you might be making someone’s Christmas – after all another man’s junk is another man’s treasure.
Tip 4: Organise your move day. If you have young children and pets, now is the time to organise what they’ll be doing on move day. Unless you’ve fashioned a box carrying device to strap on to your highly trained dog and for that matter your children, then we highly recommend organising child and pet care. This way you can move freely without the fear of a Labrador related accident.
Tip 5: Packing. You can never pack too early – find out some top tips on packing with this handy article. At Twilleys we supply our movers with sturdy, reusable cardboard boxes that are ideal for moving your items (and Christmas presents of course) safely to your new home.
Tip 6: Full freezer? Now’s the time to start making your way through your old food in time for you to defrost your freezer on the penultimate move day.
Tip 7: Paperwork… Oh we know it’s not very festive of us to mention the P word, but we must! Before you move make sure everyone who needs to know, knows about your move and your new address. See our notification checklist for everyone who needs to know.
Tip 8: Utilities. Ahead of your move, make a call to your TV, internet and phone providers and get them to set up a switch between addresses prior to your move. This way your new home will be fully geared up with all the wifi and Christmas TV you could ever dream of.
Tip 9: Christmas research. For the perfect Christmas in your new home, you’ll need to start thinking about where to find a Christmas Tree, your local supermarkets, butchers, the list goes on. So, with your move day in mind, order ahead and get everything ready for your arrival to avoid festive move mayhem.
Tip 10: Additional services. At Twilleys we offer all our movers additional unpacking services in order for you to get your new life quickly on the move. For a Christmas move, some extra hired help could go a long way – give us a call.
Tip 11: Santa. He needs to know your new address and how many chimneys you have. Otherwise he might just deliver that brand new Mercedes to the new tenants in your old house – which would be a nightmare.
Tip 12: Relax. The easy thing to do before a pre Christmas move is to panic but now you have the professionals on board, you have nothing to worry about. As a family business we understand that Christmas is important so sit back and fret ye not. – we’re here to help.
